The Pinarello story is a magnificent one, from Giovanni Pinarello taking the Maglia Nera (Black Jersey for last place) in the 1951 Giro D’Italia to the dominance of Pinarello in the cycling world today. It truly is a fairy tale, from being left out of the 1952 Giro and taking the opportunity to open his own tiny workshop in Treviso, Italy, and from there Giovanni built the Cicli Pinarello brand from the ground up. Bit by bit the success came, and with a reputation for taking the underdogs and turning them into champions, slowly but surely Pinarello went from minnows to the giants they are today.
A mainstay in the Pinarello range for many years, the Veneto utilised their expertise in building top end race frames to construct a lower cost but still high quality frame. Often found built with a slightly heavier guage of tubing such as Columbus Aelle the Veneto was offered as a frame only option with Pinarello's usual wide choice of paint colours and finishes, and also sold as a bike with a full mid-range groupset from Shimano or Campagnolo.
This beautiful example of a Veneto is finished in classic 'Rosso Pinarello' and is built from Columbus Aelle tubing. Mostly specced with an indexed Campagnolo Chorus groupset, with Athena Syncro downtube shifters, this is a really well specced bike from the point when the combined brake/shifter started to take over. Like the rest of the bike the Rigida rims have very little wear, the bike is finished with a 3T bar and stem combination and a Concor saddle rounding off the Italian theme.
The bike's been fully dis-assembled and professionally re-built by one of our mechanics. The frame's straight and true, and everything's been carefully cleaned and re-lubricated where necessary. If there are any minor issues worth noting we will do so in the overview section below. Please take a good look at the detailed photos so you can see the cosmetic condition of the bike before you buy.OVERVIEW

The 1990s was the decade that Pinarello truly dominated, and it was during that time that the Asolo model was introduced. At the start of the 90s there were only 3 bikes available in the Pinarello catalogue; Asolo, Treviso & Montello (the latter being the top model), but do not be tricked into thinking the Asolo was ‘entry level’. Every frame was produced to the same high standard and shared their trademark ride quality of a ‘proper’ racing bike, only the tubing used differed from model to model. The Asolos were built initially from Columbus Cromor and then Dolmen tubing, made especially for Pinarello by Dedacciai, both of which yielded only a touch heavier frames than the Columbus SL & SLX frames ridden by the Pinarello team icons such as Pedro Delgado or Giovanni Battaglin.
This Pinarello Asolo we believe to be from 1991, most likely built from Dedacciai Dolmen tubing, and as you can see from the weight this is a genuine lightweight - just topping the 9kg mark on the scales. This Pinarello is no exception to Pinarello’s high level of quality, and it rides exactly as you’d expect, fast, responsive and turning heads at every opportunity.
The spec is as you would see in the catalogue at the time, it’s fantastic to see such an original bike that’s now almost 30 years old. The Campagnolo Athena kit is wonderful stuff, similar to Pinarello, Campag didn’t allow any old kit to be produced in the 1990s. The market was becoming highly competitive by this point so everything not only had to perform well, but also had to look good, and Athena components sure do that.
The bike's been taken apart, inspected & re-built in our workshop so we know everything's working as it should. The frame is straight & true without any dents or dings - please inspect the photos for cosmetic condition, we've photographed the bike in detail so you can see the exact condition before purchasing.
